For Americans who read my blog, zero at the last count, chokey and porridge are terms meaning prison. Of course it would have been great to be in the Big House if I had an idea for a new story. My latest WIP ran out of steam, not writer’s block but just sheer laziness and lack of inspiration. The WIP has a great chapter with a boat heading deeper into the Golden Triangle, but even that has not shaken of my lethargy.
I am making progress on a scientific monograph, not the most easy of reads but a good project from my old office. I had recurrent bouts of illnesses that chewed me up for four years, with hospitalization and two bouts of nervous breakdowns. I sat in my office just staring at the walls. My colleagues were great and rallied around me for support, some really going the extra mile for me. Of course this couldn’t last forever so I retired, which was great when I realized I didn’t have to go work. Despite the illness, I was able to complete two novels, The Friends of Eddy Relish and Pax Britannica: the Golden Anvil.
My next book, He might be still on Mars is on the cusp of release, having gone through several rounds of copy editing. I hope to sign of on this book next week. In case folks are interested, there’s some dialog concerning Britain’s Overseas Territories, and this book contains all you ever wanted to know https://www.amazon.com/Britains-Distant-Lands-Overseas-Territories/dp/1908787317/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=britains+distant+lands&qid=1585454797&sr=8-5
Britain lost its empire but the remnants mean that the sun never sets on Britain and its empire of islands. The jewel in the crown for so long was Hong Kong, but now its the island arcs in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
Going back to my writing inertia I wonder if I should make a go of the six short stories/novellas. They are a diverse collection of stories, which I enjoyed writing. One was about a serial killer, or more precisely a sociopath rock star ‘also ran’ driven insane with jealousy and rage to kill or ruin the careers of successful rock stars. It references the German bio-chemists cherry picked by the British after WWII and put to work in Porton Down and British Universities. I’ll blog about the stories in detail another time, however, The Last Dream Before You Die began life as a short story called The Nightshift.
